In 2015, Hollywood gave us huge blockbusters like Jurassic world, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fast&Furious 7. We saw Age of Ultron gaining $630 million in the opening day, Fifty Shades of Grey gaining double of its production cost in just one day! But then we witnessed the wrong side of the coin also.
Over-budgeting, poor story line and improper marketing strategy resulted into worst box office blunders. Here is the list of top 5 biggest flop Hollywood movies in 2015 with lowest return and very poor acclamation.
Top 5 biggest flop Hollywood movies in 2015 :
5. PAN :
Collection: $119.8m
Budget: $150m
Prequels were never a good idea, neither was Pan. This Piter Pan prequel, staring model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne as well as Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman, was the biggest flop from Warner in 2015. It under-performed at the box office, making back just 80% of its huge $150m production budget.
4. Aloha :
Collection: $26.3m
Budget: $37m
Hawaii-set film Aloha, which stars Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams and Emma Stone, attracted negative publicity even before opening in cinemas earlier this summer.
As evidenced by emails published as part of the Sony hack, it was revealed that Amy Pascal, the then-chairman of Sony Pictures, hated the film. Casting Emma Stone as a part-Asian character was another bad idea.
3. Fantastic Four :
Collection: $166m
Budget: $120m
By the end of 2014, We thought superhero movie means sure success. Fantastic Four proved it as a myth! The production was marred by on-set conflict between director Josh Trank and lead actor Miles Teller. The controversy was bad enough for Lucasfilm to fire Trank from one of their upcoming Anthology films.
2. Jupiter Ascending
Collection: $183.9m
Budget: $176m
Warner Bros had a bad year. Jupiter Ascending, the latest film from Andy and Lana Wachowski, could not save its name despite being loaded with CGI. The film stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones, a Russian émigré who cleans rich people’s bathrooms in Chicago and discovers, via various aliens, that she is the reincarnated head of an intergalactic dynasty called the House of Abrasax.
The film earned just above the proposed budget because it got a bit collection from Chinese audiences when it opened in Asia in March.
1. Rock The Kasbah
Collection: $2.87m
Budget: $15m
With mere 19% return, Rock the Kasbah grabbed the winning trophy of among the top 5 biggest flop Hollywood movies in 2015. This comedy about a band manager who travels to wartime Afghanistan to scout for talent, starring Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel and Kate Hudson, managed to collect only $2.87m.
Hope 2016 will be better for all these production houses.
