The Top Five ‘Rick and Morty’ Episodes

Considered one of the best cartoon shows currently on the air, Rick and Morty has a cult following of fans who religiously watch this show. And because each season often takes some time for co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland to create, it usually means fans are waiting in anticipation to see what horrible misadventures Rick and his grandson Morty get up to in the next season.

The last episode to air on television was in October of 2017. And with each season usually taking a long hiatus, a well-deserved binge watch of their best episodes might hold you over until season 4. So, as we wait for a release date for season four, here are the top five Rick and Morty episodes you can catch up on to fill the time.

“The Ricklantis Mixup”

To start this list, “The Ricklantis Mixup”, Rick and Morty season 3 episode 7, is one of the most recent episodes of the show to air, and it left many fans wanting more out of the Evil Morty plot line. Starting as an episode about the two main characters taking a trip to the lost city of Atlantis, the plot then entirely ignores this to focus on the Citadel and its political happenings.

The episode then shows viewers the lives of other Ricks and Mortys from other dimensions that don’t have the luxury of adventure that our main characters do. There’s also a cliffhanger that many are hoping will lead to a showdown in the next season.

“Pickle Rick”

This Emmy-winning — yes, Emmy-winning — episode of the Adult Swim show saw Rick embark on his weirdest journey to date and saw the internet implode with memes. In “Pickle Rick”, Rick tries to avoid going to family therapy by turning himself into a pickle. What ensues is a couple of slain rats, a laser/gun battle, and the escape of a fearsome prisoner named Jaguar. This episode if nothing but on par with the show’s over-the-top demeanor.

“Rixty Minutes”

The episode that started a series within the Rick and Morty show, “Rixty Minutes” is an entire episode where we watch the Smith family watch television — interdimensional television, that is. This episode is filled with short bits of television segments that are often just ad-libbed by co-creator Roiland, who happens to also voice both main characters. This episode was so popular, it was followed up by a sequel in season 2.

“Total Rickall”

A clever and yet utterly ridiculous episode, “Total Rickall” exemplifies what the series is all about and why it got popular to begin with. With a slate of one-off side characters who became quick fan favorites, this episode is chock full of one-liners that break the fourth wall.

We also see the introduction of Mr. Poopybutthole, one of the aforementioned fan favorite characters who went on to become a regular in post-credit scenes. “Total Rickall” is a great example for new watchers of how the show typically looks.

“Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate”

Showing up its predecessor with even more wacky, ad-libbed shorts, Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate saw two distinct storylines. The main plot shows the antics of Smith family patriarch Jerry in an intergalactic hospital that includes eating alien bacteria and possibly losing his manhood to save a beloved alien leader.

Meanwhile, Rick, Morty, and Summer highjack one of the hospital’s televisions to watch more interdimensional cable. What ensues is a back and forth between a normal Rick and Morty episode and the highly demanded return of interdimensional cable shorts.
