Steelers WR Coach Darryl Drake Dies Suddenly
Steelers wide receivers coach Darryl Drake died suddenly on Sunday. Drake, who was 62 at the time of his death, had a career spanning four decades, including his times with the Steelers, the Cardinals, and the Bears. However, the team didn’t confirm his cause of death. In addition, the Steelers canceled camp practices on both Sunday and Monday.
“We are at a loss for words following Darryl Drake’s passing this morning. Darryl had such an impact on the players he coached and everyone he worked with throughout his entire career. He was a passionate coach and had a tremendous spirit toward life, his family, his faith and the game of football,” Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement.
Jake Arrieta Likely To Have Season-Ending Surgery
The Phillies placed RHP Jake Arrieta on the IL on Wednesday. They also said he would likely undergo surgery for bone spurs in his elbow. Recently, Arrieta has been pitching through the season with minimal effectiveness. Arrieta also told reporters that if he actually went under surgery, he would not pitch again for the rest of the season. Currently, he’s scheduled for an MRI on Thursday.
“I would have liked it to go differently,” Arrieta told reporters Wednesday. “I would have liked to pitch the remainder of the season healthy, but it’s something that I really couldn’t control. The spur stayed pretty dormant for 7-8 years, and it decided to give me trouble and get to a size now where this is the only option to me getting back to the pitcher that I am. And that’s OK. This is what I have to do.”
LeBron Dedicates Court At I Promise School
LeBron James recently dedicated a basketball court at the school he founded two years ago. He founded the school, named I Promise School, to help underprivileged kids in his hometown. He also helped unveil the multicolored court. And, with help from a few of his friends and teammates, he played the kids in a quick game to break in the court.
Hurricanes Agree On Multi-Year Contract With GM Waddell
The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed GM and team president Don Waddell with a multi-year contract. The deal announced on Monday doesn’t go into specifics about his contract. Canes owner Mike Dundon says Waddell’s “leadership and experience are invaluable to our organization.” In addition, Waddell has been with the Canes since 2014.
Harvick Wins Cup Race at Michigan
Kevin Harvick won his 47th NASCAR Cup last Sunday, at the Michigan International Speedway. However, it seems the race veteran doesn’t get too excited about winning anymore. “It’s more of an expectation,” Harvick said. And, with only three more races before the playoffs, Harvick’s strong performance might help him win a second championship.
