Joel Embiid Fined $25,000 For Misconduct
The NBA fined 76ers center Joel Embiid $25,000 for making an obscene gesture during a game and swearing during an interview. With 17 seconds left on the clock, Embiid had the ball before Kevin Huerter stole it, prompting him to flash his middle finger. However, Joel Embiid later apologized for the gesture.
After the game, though, he made a remark regarding his previous comments about being the best player in the world. “Yeah, I believe I am. But when I made that statement, I didn’t actually say that I was,” he said. “I said that being with some of the best players in the world [at the All-Star Game], I proved myself. That’s what I said. But yeah, f— it. My bad. I do believe it.”
Tony Grossi Suspended For Derogatory Slur
A Cleveland Browns radio host has been suspended for using a derogatory slur in reference to Brown’s QB Baker Mayfield. During a commercial break, Tony Grossi didn’t realize his mic was still hot and called Mayfield a ‘midget’ after he used a vulgar word. Almost immediately. the station’s owner issued an apology and said it would punish Grossi.
As a result, the station suspended Grossi indefinitely. Grossi also issued his own apology on Twitter over the situation. A spokesperson for Mayfield declined to comment on the situation. In addition, the station announced plans to pursue sensitivity and inclusion training for the whole company.
Freddy Peralta Guaranteed $15.5M With New Contract
The Brewers’ have signed RHP Freddy Peralta to a 5-year contract extension, the team announced. The contract is worth $15.5M and includes two club options. In his last season with the Brewers, Peralta was 7-3 with a 5.29 ERA in 39 appearances. Career-wise, he is 13-7 with a 4.79 ERA. He also has 211 strikeouts and 77 walks.
Victor Mete Out For Season
Canadiens’ defenseman Victor Mete is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot. He broke his foot during February 18th’s game against Detroit. The 21-year-old had four goals and seven assists in 51 games this season. He has four goals and 27 assists in 171 games with Montreal. He joined the team in 2016, where he was a 4th round pick.
Ryan Newman Treated For Head Injury
Ryan Newman said that he injured his head during the last lap of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. However, he didn’t give any details about the injury. “I was fortunate to avoid any internal organ damage or broken bones. I did sustain a head injury for which I’m currently being treated,” Newman wrote in a statement. “The doctors have been pleased with my progression over the last few days.”
