WHO Warns Against Coronavirus Complacency

The World Health Organization warned countries not to become complacent about the coronavirus outbreak. Recently, governments like Iran and Australia raced to contain the epidemic’s global spread. For example, worldwide cases have surpassed those in China. As a result, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said even rich nations should prepare for surprises.

Countries around the world have been stockpiling supplies, canceling large gatherings, and shutting schools down. The objective is to limit the spread of the disease, which began in China’s illegal wildlife market. Currently, the disease in China is on the decline. However, globally, the disease is rising. In Japan alone, doctors have reported over 200 coronavirus cases. In addition, a tour guide tested positive a second time, one of the few cases to do so.

Obama Slams Anti-Biden Ads

After swearing neutrality in the US 2020 presidential elections, former President Obama intervened to slam an attack on candidate Joe Biden. In an ad broadcast before Tuesday’s Democratic debate, the former president can be heard reading from his ’95 memoir Dreams from My Father. “Plantation politics. Black people in the worst jobs, the worst housing. Police brutality rampant. But when the so-called black committeemen came around election time, we’d all line up and vote the straight Democratic ticket. Sell our souls for a Christmas turkey,” he says, quoting a barber he was getting a haircut from.

However, the quote wasn’t referring to Biden, like the ad makes it seem. Instead, the quote was about Chicago’s first black mayor. “This despicable ad is straight out of the Republican disinformation playbook,” Katie Hill, Obama’s communications director, said in a statement. And it’s clearly designed to suppress turnout among minority voters in South Carolina by taking President Obama’s voice out of context and twisting his words to mislead viewers. In the interest of truth in advertising, we are calling on TV stations to take this ad down and stop playing into the hands of bad actors who seek to sow division and confusion among the electorate.”

A US grandfather has pled guilty to his granddaughter’s accidental death on a cruise ship. On July 7th, Salvatore Anello was with his family when his granddaughter Chloe Wiegand fell after Anello placed her on a railing. He said that the thought there was glass there. He said, “I wasn’t drinking and I wasn’t dangling her out of a window. I just wanted to knock on the glass with her as we did together so many times before. I was just so horribly wrong about our surroundings.”
